Sharing Toys Dialogue

 

Mommy: I see some of your friends.  Can they come over and play with you?

Child: Yes.

Mommy: Look, they are bringing their toys with them. 

Child: Yeah!

Mommy: Remember to ask nicely before you play with their toy.

Child: Okay.

Mommy: Do you remember how to ask nicely?

Child: No.

Mommy: You have to say “Can I please play with your toy?”  Can you say that?

Child: Can I please play with your toy?

Mommy: Very good.  Then you must wait for your friend to say “yes”.  If they say “yes” then you can play with the toy.  If they say “no” then you cannot play with it.  Okay?  

Child: Okay.

Mommy: If you ask nicely to play with their toys, then they will ask you nicely as well before they play with one of your toys.

Child: Okay.

Mommy: Do you want to practice?

Child: Okay.

Mommy: Can I please play with this toy?

Child: No.

Mommy: You don’t want to share it?

Child: No.

Mommy: Okay.  It’s your toy and you don’t have to share if you don’t want to.

Child: This.

Mommy: Do you want to play with this toy?

Child: Yes.

Mommy: You must ask nicely.  “Can I please play with your toy?”

Child: Can I please play with your toy?

Mommy: Yes.  See, I shared my toy.  Would you like to share your toy now?

Child: Okay.

Mommy: That’s very nice of you.  Sharing is nice.

Child: This.

Mommy: Hold on, please.  You can’t grab a toy that isn’t yours.  You must ask. 

Child: Can I please play with this toy?

Mommy: Very good.  I am playing with it now.  I will give it to you in a few minutes.

Child: Okay.

Mommy: I am finished.  Here is the toy.

Child: Thank you.

Mommy: You’re welcome.

Child: My toy.

Mommy: Yes, that is your toy.  You can play with your toys.  You don’t have to ask first.

Child:  Your toy.

Mommy: Yes, this is my toy.  If you want to play with it then you must me first if it’s alright.

Child: Yes.

Mommy: Are you ready to play with your friends now?

Child: Yes.

Mommy:  Good.  Have fun and remember to ask first and to share nicely.
