These are things you can say to your children when you are driving in the car:
- Look, there is a (tree/dog/train/blue car/yellow car/big car/small car/bus/motorcycle).
- Do you want to listen to music?
- Do you want to hear that song again?
- Do you want to sing a song?
- Do you want to sing that song again?
- Do you want to read a book?
- Do you want to play with your toy(s)?
- Do you want to sit down?
- Please sit down in your seat.
- Please sit down and lean all the way back.
- Your bottom and your back should be touching the seat. Are they touching the seat?
- Are you wearing your seatbelt?
- Please put on your seatbelt.
- If you don't sit down then Mommy will (take away the Television/take away one toy/not give you dessert today/not read you a bed time story/tell Daddy that you did not listen to Mommy).
- I want you to look for a (tree/dog/cat/bird/train/yellow car.........) Tell me when you see it.
- Good job. Now can you look for a __________? Tell me when you see it.
- I know you want the car to move. But we are stuck in a traffic jam. We can't move right now. Just relax. We will move soon.
- Please relax. The car is not a place to play. Mommy needs to look at the road and the other cars. Mommy must be careful so we don't have an accident.
- Please read your books.
- Please play with your toy(s).
I hope this helps.
