สาเหตุที่ต้องใช้ I went to play. เพราะประโยคที่พูดฉันไปเล่น มันเป็น Part simple tense , Part simple tense รูปประโยคมันคือ S+V2 ช่อง 2 ของ go คือ went ส่วน gone คือช่องที่ 3 ของ go ถ้าจะใช้ gone ต้องใช้ในประโยคของ perfect tense ครับ Past perfect tense = S+had+V3 i gone to play ใช้ไม่ได้ครับ ถ้าจะใช้ให้ใช้ I had gone to play.

Correct:
"He left for the day"
"He had gone to the US"

"He gone" is not grammatical. 'gone' is the past participle that needs to be part of the passive or perfect.
'He is gone.' (He is not here)
'He has gone' (He left, and now he is not here)

In the test sentence, we need the past participle of 'go' as the tense required is the past perfect (had + past participle).
