Hello Mr. Simon Adams and หม่าม้าเฮงๆ ka,
I saw the suggestion from Mr.Simon, and it's really get my intention.
First of all, I'm a babysister to my niece (she's my brother baby), just 3 months old.

I'd like to introduce a bit about my background. I used to live in Sydney (Australia) for studying and working (in the aussie's restaurant) about 2 yrs.
I think my English is good and I got aussie accent (but not strong) as well. Before leaving Thailand, I've been practiced English language with my American freind...he's teaching in the Uni.
From above, I believe I can practice my niece to speak English myself. But the problem is I've no idea how to start.
For the reason, my brother and his wife cannot speak English quite well and they ask me to teach Eng to their baby.

Second, I just spend couple hrs with my niece a day, is it enough for her? I started with Eng alphabet CD (native speaking) yesterday, and repete it over and over again (about 30 mins).

Third, when is she ready to next step, to learn new vocab?
Because, when I was in Syd..I spoke with many parents, they speak Eng as mother tongue.
So, I think if I just keep speaking Eng to my niece day by day, she may learn it natuarally, is that correct?

Thank you much for your suggestion ka.
Just to START...is already a GOOD start...but the key word .....to teaching is ....CONSISTENT .....that's the most important ......you don't really need to be a Pro at teaching ...but to know and try to understand the different stages of the child development would be a good understanding to have ....how long are you planing on sticking around with the little niece ...if you don't mind me asking.. :) ........and your English is........GOOD !!!! :) writing that is .... :P I haven't heard you speak...yet..! simonsadams@gmail.com .......
Well, that's my problem too. I dont know how long I can stick around her...this is just the first start and haven't planned yet.
I am not a total expert on this ...na krupps ! but speaking from my own experience ......Many child learn best when we repeat things .....that's where the word "Consistent" comes in .......They "Mirror learning" or loves to Copy what we do ...or even say...even though they can't quite speak yet ...When you are "Spending time" with the baby ...try NOT to think Teaching.........Think of "Play" ....lots of action ....lots of noise ......... stimulate the senses ...your's and the baby's....and Have FUN.....!!!!!! kids learn best when they feel the person next to them is/are relaxed and playful....Baby have a very strong "sixth sense" of things around them ....... new vocab ..learning ..............each words that comes out of you or anyone ....is plenty or words already !!! ... :)
" Hi, Baby...Whatcha doin' " ??!!! " Are you HUNGRY"?? etc.......you are already teaching her new vocab !!!! :)

take your time ka....Many more Happy Years of learning to come ....... :) enjoy!
Hi K. Thanida

what i suggest will be the books that written by the person who created this community.
" เด็ก 2 ภาษา พ่อแม่สร้างได้ "
Aunty ก็สร้างได้ค่ะ
This book mainly said that we could make our child become bilingual.
even you are not the native speaker.
even you are not good in English and even you don't have much time to be with the child

ลองซื้อมาอ่านดูค่ะ มีสองเล่ม คุ้มค่ากับการลงทุนค่ะ
Hi K.จขกท,
Thank you much for your suggestion. Actually, I already quick read on those books (both of them).
In my opinion, I think we can practice our child as everyday conversation, let say, if we are living in abroad now and we have to live in that environment, we dont even have to memorize e'thing from those people, but our brain could learn it naturally.
So, I think I'm not pushing my niece much pressure to learn but let her feel and listen, then I believe she can gradually learn it by herself.
So, what you think ka?
K. Thanida

That's just right thing to do. Try to make yourself an English speaker for your niece. She will learn form that.
For me, I’m a bilingual myself as my family speaks Mandarin Chinese and I learn Thai later from school. I felt so lucky knowing Chinese without putting any effort on it.

Your niece's so lucky to have you. As I speak Chinese to my son and now have to figure out how to add English for him. Actually my son's uncle's really good in English (He got 2 master degrees, one from States one from British) but still I can't make him speak English to my son coz he feel it funny that way.
