Why don't one of you speak Thai to the kids? That might help.
wife tried.......but my older son had refused to communicate back and ...gave the Mrs. "The look" .........He'd openly said to us when he was about 3ish......"I don't want to speak Thai" ....... even my youngest boy .....will hold him self back to answer to my Mrs. when she tried to say / ask him something in Thai ....:P
as for me ....My thai isn't all that GREAT to begin with ....speaking is Ok ....writing ....I am no better than my son in KG 3 level ! ....so I have agreed with the Mrs. that if one of us should have to Speak in thai ...it would be Mommy's job.....affraid that we will confused the child in the early stages of his development ......
I have to say that it is probably quite common for every parent in this village who starts teaching their kid bilingual when they are a bit older. The children can get a bit confuse and most of them may refuse to reply or even try to keep to themselves for a while. What you have to do is to stick to the plan and if it is possible, either you and/or your wife would have to speak Thai all the time. It would help speed up the transition process. It doesn’t matter if you are not good at writing Thai because we are focusing on your kids to start speaking Thai.

The early stages of his development that you are worrying about is not quite a problem, because more time that you spend with him the better his development will be. I can say this because more you talk with him, more he will learn from you, not only the language but also everything else too.

You probably could ask other moms who has been through this stage before for more advice.
agreed.... :) ..............But ...I have been DEMANDED by my boys to speak only in English to them since my Thai "Sounds funny"..... :P
Good time to learn for both your boys and you.
this should be very intersting.......cus my sons are laughing non stop ...at me ....when I am talking to them in Thai ...(Now) :P
Sound like a happy funny family. Anyway Good night ka. Now is my kids bedtime. I got to go.

Good Luck and keep trying.
I have to keep asking my girl to speak Thai at home everyday.
almost the opposite at our house....... :p .....but ...the thing is ......you and your family are living overseas..? .........My kids are here in Thailand ...and going to a Thai / EP school........
Hi there...just read your request to have 'Just Dadz' room. What a good idea!

May i ask what school you kids go to? Normally EP schools use MOE's curriculum which teach 50% in Thai (correct me if I'm wrong). Do your kids find it difficult to do Thai homework? Reason of asking is my son finds it tough for him to do Chinese homework. Perhaps that is the common obstacle of bi or tri-lingual kids.

Yeaahhh.....I have my 2nd ....vote !!! :P

My sons are attending Sarasas Bi-lingual school at the moment ..... My older son is loving it .....( But , it doesn't have Air-cons in the class rooms....sooooo he doesn't like the fact that it could get too hot for him) Yes ...he's having abit of a problem with his Thai - Language / Home work ....but he's attending an After school "Home work" class to help him out abit ...cuz Noone can't really teach him at home .....Me, My Thai is about the same level as my son's........and The Mrs. work place is abit far to make it home in time to spend time with his homework....i am hoping that when my language school is opperational in August ......I will have my sons in the school atleast 1-2 time week studying his Thai language.... or something along that line..... And YES, All Bi- tri lingual schools MUST follows the rules and regulations anddddd.....Curriculum of the MOE ......ofcourse they could get away with a few "Changes" or so called "Up-grades" to compete against other SAME program schools ....
