เหมือนแม่น้องเนยจะถามไว้ที่กระทู้ไหน แต่ไม่มีเวลาตอบ พอเข้ามาอีกทีหาไม่เจอแล้วค่ะ

คำว่า treat รีเฟอร์มาจาก www.webster.com นะคะ เป็นได้ทั้ง noun และ verb ค่ะ

ในกรณีที่เป็น Noun นะคะ แปลได้สองความหมาย
1 a: an entertainment given without expense to those invited b: the act of providing another with free food, drink, or entertainment เช่น This meal will be my treat.
2: an especially unexpected source of joy, delight, or amusement เช่น Seeing her again was a treat. ที่เคยตอบแม่น้องเนยไปว่าก็ประมาณว่า You will get a treat if you are a good girl.

ส่วนที่เป็น Verb ก็แปลได้หลายอย่างค่ะ ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าเป็น กรรมตรงหรือกรรมรอง

รวมๆแล้วที่รีใช้บ่อยๆในชีวิตประจำวันคือ ใช้เป็นกรรมตรง เช่น ให้ฉันเลี้ยงมื้อนี้นะ หรือ คุณหมอรักษาคนไข้ อะไรประมาณนี้ค่ะ

ประเพณี Trick or Treat

เริ่มขึ้นในราวคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 9 โดยชาวยุโรป ที่ถือว่า วันที่ 2 พ.ย. เป็นวันจิตวิญญาณ 'All Souls' พวกเขาจะเดินร้องขอ 'ขนมเค้กสำหรับวิญญาณ' (Soul cake) ซึ่งทำมาจากขนมปังทรงสี่เหลี่ยมและใส่ลูกเกด จากหมู่บ้านหนึ่งไปยังอีกหมู่บ้านหนึ่ง โดยพวกเขาเชื่อกันว่า ยิ่งให้ขนมเค้กมากเท่าไร วิญญาณของญาติผู้บริจาคก็ได้รับผลบุญมากเท่านั้น และทำให้มีโอกาสได้รับการปลดปล่อยให้ไปสู่สวรรค์ได้เร็วขึ้นอีกด้วย

ประเพณี Trick or Treat จะเป็นการที่เด็กๆ แต่งหน้า แต่งตัวเป็นผีในตอนกลางคืน และเดินไปเคาะประตูตามบ้านต่างๆ เพื่อร้องขอขนมเค้กสำหรับวิญญาณ (Soul cake) พร้อมกับส่งเสียงทักทายว่า "Trick or Treat" หากเจ้าของบ้านตอบว่า Trick จะถูกเด็กๆ แกล้ง แต่ถ้าตอบว่า Treat เจ้าของบ้านหลังนั้นก็ต้องนำขนมเค้ก ลูกกวาด ผลไม้ หรือ เศษสตางค์ มาให้พวกเด็กๆ จนกว่าพวกเขาจะพอใจ ซึ่งเด็กที่แต่งตัวเป็นภูติผีวิญญาณนี้ เปรียบเหมือนสื่อกลางในการสื่อสารระหว่างคนเป็นและคนตาย โดยเจ้าของบ้านที่ให้ขนมแก่เด็กๆ สามารถฝากคำอธิษฐานไปถึงคนตายได้ด้วย ดังนั้น ยิ่งเด็กๆ ขอขนมได้มากเท่าใด วิญญาณที่ยังวนเวียนอยู่ในนรกก็จะยิ่งได้รับส่วนบุญ และมีโอกาสได้ขึ้นสวรรค์มากยิ่งขึ้นอีกด้วย

ดังนั้น เพื่อความปลอดภัยของเด็กๆ ที่ออกไปทำกิจกรรม Trick or Treat เด็กๆ ควรจะแต่งตัวด้วยเสื้อผ้าสีอ่อน หรือเสื้อผ้าที่มีสีสะท้อนแสง เพื่อให้ผู้ขับขี่ยานพาหนะมองเห็น
ได้ง่ายและเป็นการป้องกันการเกิดอุบัติเหตุทางรถยนต์อีกทางหนึ่ง ผู้ปกครองบางคนเกรงว่า การใส่หน้ากาก จะทำให้เด็กๆ มองเห็นได้ไม่ชัดเจน จึงนิยมใช้เครื่องสำอางแต่งหน้าให้เด็กๆ และมักจะเตือนให้เด็ก ๆ รับประทานเฉพาะขนมหรือลูกกวาดที่บรรจุอยู่ในหีบห่ออย่างดีเท่านั้น

นอกจากนี้ ชุมชนบางแห่งอาจจะมีการประกาศเวลาการทำกิจกรรม Trick or Treat อย่างเป็นทางการอีกด้วย เพื่อให้ประชาชนเตรียมตัวรับกับการมาเยือนของเด็กๆ และเป็นการเตือนให้ผู้ขับขี่ยานพาหนะได้ระมัดระวังการใช้รถใช้ถนนในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวเป็นพิเศษอีกด้วย

The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays dates back to the Middle Ages and includes Christmas wassailing. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain,[3] although similar practices for the souls of the dead were found as far south as Italy.

Halloween History

Halloween has origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (Irish pronunciation: [ˈsˠaunʲ]; from the Old Irish samain, possibly derived from Gaulish samonios). The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes regarded as the "Celtic New Year". Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Celts believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to copy the evil spirits or placate them.
Origin of name

The term Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe’en, is shortened from All Hallows’ Eve (both even and eve are abbreviations of evening, but Halloween gets its n from even) as it is the eve of "All Hallows’ Day", which is now also known as All Saints’ Day. It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European pagan traditions, until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints’ Day from May 13 (which had itself been the date of a pagan holiday, the Feast of the Lemures) to November 1. In the 9th century, the Church measured the day as starting at sunset, in accordance with the Florentine calendar. Although All Saints’ Day is now considered to occur one day after Halloween, the two holidays were, at that time, celebrated on the same day.
