This is an easy English song I made up that you can sing with your children. You can print it out to help you remember the words. The melody (music) can be anything you want. Here we go:
Five hippos running through the jungle (boom boom boom boom boom)
Five hippos dancing through the jungle (bam bam bam bam bam)
Five hippos swimming through the jungle (splash splash splash splash splash)
Five hippos walking through the jungle (bing bing bing bing bing)
Five hippos ________ through the jungle (any sound you want - have fun)
You only need to change the action. Here are more actions:
- laughing
- talking
- reading
- moving
- singing
- coloring
- sneezing
- sleeping
- flying
- driving
- bouncing
- looking
The song can go on until you can't think of any more actions.
If you or your child don't like hippos then you can change the animal. Solo, my son, loves hippos (I don't know why) so I use hippos every time.
If you don't want to say "through the jungle" you can change it. Here are other things you can say:
Five hippos (action) ____________
- in the house
- at the zoo
- at the sea
- in the sea
- in the car
- on the bus
- in the shopping mall
- in the river
- at the market
- at Super English
- in the shower
You should only change one thing. Keep everything else the same. When I sing this song to Solo I only change the action. Sometimes I sing it softly to help him go to sleep. Sometimes I sing it loudly and do the actions to make it fun. Sometimes I use it to get him into the shower. I say "Five hippos splashing in the shower" and then I splash the water. When Solo hears the song and the water splashing he comes running into the shower. Then we have to sing the song ten times, but he gets into the shower.
I hope this is useful and that you have fun using it to practice speaking English with your children.
